School Status & Accreditation

Building Masteria Academy With Intention

Masteria Academy is being developed as a competency-based private online school designed to serve students across the United States.

Our vision extends beyond supplemental tutoring or individual learning resources. Masteria is being built as an educational institution where students can progress through clearly defined competencies, demonstrate mastery through multiple forms of evidence, and ultimately complete connected courses of study.

We are beginning with an introductory pilot while the broader school model continues to develop.

Our Current Stage

Masteria Academy is currently in its introductory pilot stage.

During this phase, Masteria offers select individual competencies in English Language Arts and Mathematics, along with optional teacher support and mastery assessment.

The introductory pilot allows us to work with students and families while continuing to develop, evaluate, and strengthen the academic, assessment, technology, student-support, and operational systems required for our future full-school model.

Because Masteria is still in this developmental stage, families should understand that participation in the introductory competency pilot is not currently enrollment in an accredited diploma-granting school program.

Individual pilot competencies should not be represented as accredited course credit unless and until Masteria has obtained the appropriate institutional status and specifically identifies a program as credit-bearing.

Becoming a Recognized School

Masteria Academy intends to pursue the appropriate registration and recognition processes for a nonpublic school in its home state of Illinois.

State recognition and independent accreditation are separate processes.

As Masteria progresses through these stages, we will update this page so families can clearly see our current school status.

Our Accreditation Goal

Masteria Academy intends to pursue accreditation through an established independent accrediting organization serving elementary and secondary schools.

Accreditation is an external quality-review process that evaluates areas such as educational quality, organizational effectiveness, student support, leadership, continuous improvement, and institutional practices.

Masteria will only describe itself as accredited after accreditation has officially been granted.

Until that time, our website will clearly communicate our current status and progress.

Serving Students Across the United States

Masteria Academy is being designed as an online educational model capable of serving students beyond Illinois.

Because requirements for private education, homeschooling, course credit, compulsory attendance, graduation, and diploma recognition can vary by state, Masteria will evaluate applicable requirements as our full-school programs expand.

Families participating in programs prior to full school recognition and accreditation should continue to meet the educational requirements applicable in their state of residence.

As Masteria expands, we will provide families with clear information about the status and intended use of each program we offer.

Our Long-Term Vision

Our goal is for Masteria Academy to develop into a recognized and independently accredited private online school serving students across the United States.

Masteria ultimately plans to offer competency-based learning across Grades 4-12, including:

• English Language Arts

• Mathematics

• Science

• Social Studies

• Electives

Our future full-course programs are being designed around the same principle that guides everything at Masteria:

Students should advance because they have demonstrated mastery—not simply because time has passed.

Transparency Matters

Families deserve to know exactly what an educational organization can—and cannot—currently provide.

That's why Masteria will distinguish clearly among:

Individual Competency Learning — Instruction focused on a specific skill or competency.

Mastery Assessment & Verification — Masteria's Evidence A, Evidence B, and Evidence C process used to determine whether a student has demonstrated mastery.

Full-Course Programs — Connected sequences of competencies developed to form complete courses of study.

Accredited School Programs — Programs offered under Masteria's future accreditation status once accreditation has officially been achieved.

We will never ask families to assume a status Masteria has not yet earned.

As Masteria reaches new milestones in registration, recognition, accreditation, and program development, those milestones will be published here.

We aren't simply building courses. We're building a school, and we're committed to building it responsibly.
