At Masteria Academy, students don't move forward simply because they completed an assignment, earned a passing grade, or reached the end of a semester.

They move forward when they demonstrate mastery.

Masteria breaks learning into clearly defined competencies; specific skills and knowledge students can learn, practice, apply, and ultimately demonstrate.

Instead of requiring families to purchase an entire course when a student may need help with only a few skills, Masteria allows families to begin with the individual competencies their student needs.

We are beginning with English Language Arts and Mathematics, with a much larger vision ahead.

Introductory Competency Pilot

Masteria Academy is launching intentionally.

Rather than introducing every course and grade level at once, our first phase is an Introductory Competency Pilot featuring select English Language Arts and Mathematics competencies.

Families participating in this introductory pilot will be among the first to experience Masteria's competency-based approach to learning.

This phase gives Masteria the opportunity to work with real students and families, gather feedback, refine the experience, and continue strengthening the model before launching complete courses.

We're building Masteria much the same way we ask students to learn:

Learn. Apply. Gather evidence. Reflect. Improve. Master.

Individual Competencies

$99 per competency — One-Time Purchase

Families can purchase individual English Language Arts or Mathematics competencies for $99 each.

There is no monthly subscription required to purchase and use an individual competency.

Each competency focuses on a clearly defined learning goal and provides students with instruction and learning experiences designed to help them build genuine understanding, not simply complete assignments.

Students move through structured learning that gives them opportunities to explore the skill, develop understanding, practice, and apply what they have learned.

Families may purchase a single competency or add additional competencies as their student progresses.

English Language Arts

Masteria English Language Arts competencies are designed to strengthen students as readers, writers, communicators, and thinkers.

Competencies may address areas such as:

• Reading comprehension

• Literary and informational text analysis

• Vocabulary and language

• Evidence-based reasoning

• Written communication

• Speaking and explaining ideas

Mathematics

Masteria Mathematics competencies focus on developing mathematical understanding rather than simply memorizing procedures.

Competencies may address areas such as:

• Number sense and operations

• Fractions, decimals, and percentages

• Ratios and proportional reasoning

• Expressions and equations

• Geometry and measurement

• Data analysis

• Mathematical problem solving

Students are encouraged not only to find an answer, but to understand why the answer makes sense.

Add Teacher Support & Mastery Assessment

$179 per month

Families who want Masteria to provide teacher support, assessments, feedback, and formal mastery verification can add our optional Teacher Support & Mastery Assessment subscription for $179 per month.

The subscription includes Masteria's complete assessment process for the competencies the student has purchased, along with up to two total hours of individual teacher support each month.

Your Monthly Subscription Includes:

• Up to two total hours of teacher support each month

• Evidence B authentic application tasks

• Evidence C live mastery defense

• Teacher review and scoring of mastery evidence

• Individualized feedback on assessment performance

Your Two Teacher-Support Hours Are for Support

Assessment administration and scoring do not reduce the student's two hours of monthly teacher support.

Evidence C: The student's live mastery defense also does not count against those two hours.

That means students have up to two full hours each month specifically for teacher support, in addition to the time Masteria teachers spend assessing, scoring, providing assessment feedback, and conducting Evidence C mastery defenses.

Teacher-support time can be used when a student needs clarification, additional explanation, help working through a difficult concept, or guidance before demonstrating mastery.

Teacher support helps students learn.

Assessment provides the evidence.

Teacher verification confirms the mastery.

More Than a Test

How Masteria Determines Mastery

A student can complete a worksheet.

A student can memorize information long enough to pass a test.

A student can even earn a good grade without developing lasting understanding.

That's why Masteria doesn't rely on one score to determine mastery.

Students participating in Masteria's assessment process demonstrate their learning through multiple forms of evidence.

Evidence A — Know It

Students demonstrate the foundational knowledge and understanding required by the competency.

Evidence B — Use It

Students apply what they have learned to an authentic task, problem, or situation.

Evidence C — Explain It

Students demonstrate and defend their understanding through live interaction with a Masteria teacher.

Together, these forms of evidence help us determine whether a student can:

Know it. Use it. Explain it.

Because completing the work and mastering the learning aren't always the same thing.

What Happens If My Student Doesn't Master It?

They keep learning.

Masteria is built around a simple belief:

Not yet is different from can't.

When assessment evidence shows that a student hasn't yet mastered a competency, the purpose isn't to label the student as unsuccessful.

The evidence helps identify what the student understands, where the difficulty remains, and what needs to happen next.

Students can receive feedback, return to learning, strengthen their understanding, and have another opportunity to demonstrate mastery.

The goal isn't to move students through material as quickly as possible.

The goal is to make sure learning actually happens.

Students Don't Always Fit Into One Grade-Level Box

A student may be an excellent reader but struggle with a particular writing skill.

A student may understand advanced mathematical concepts while still having a gap involving fractions.

Masteria recognizes that learning doesn't always happen in a perfectly straight line.

That's why Masteria uses Beacons to represent levels of learning rather than assuming that every skill a student possesses must correspond to one traditional grade level.

The goal isn't to label the student.

The goal is to determine what they already know, identify what they need next, and build from there.

Full-Course English & Mathematics Pilots

The Introductory Competency Pilot is only our first step.

Following this initial phase, Masteria plans to expand into full-course pilots in English Language Arts and Mathematics.

Instead of purchasing competencies individually, students participating in the full-course pilots will progress through connected sequences of competencies designed to build learning over time.

These pilots will allow Masteria to continue refining the student, family, teacher, and assessment experience before broader expansion.

We are building carefully; testing our approach, listening to students and families, examining the evidence, improving what we create, and expanding when we're ready.
